Google Grandcentral To be Released – Google Voice is Alive
Google has recently announced its long overdue release of Google Grandcentral, now dubbed Google Voice. Google Voice is being promoted as the way to unify your cell phone mobile phone and other phones all in one. You are said to be able to receive a number and be able to dictate which other number it would go to.
The Google Voice service is supposed to be similar to skype with its voice over ip system. In addition to that there are a couple of other features that have been added to it as well:
Text Messaging – You are able to text message and receive text messages from your google voice account. The previous version did not allow this so it is a nice little touch. It is being powered by the google chat feature.
Voicemail Transcription – This feature is pretty interesting. The system will transcribe all voicemails and save them making them indexable and searchable. You can tag them with tags or comments so that you can easily reference them in the future. This is a popular new feature.
What I like best is the ability to manage the number. This way you can give out one number and it can quickly be routed to one of your other numbers depending on who is calling and at what time.
Being that it has just been released it is closed to everyone except those who have been invited and will not be available to the public for a bit of time while it goes through its beta phase. Despite this restriction some of the Google Voice accounts are being sold on ebay.
The Service is free like skype so you might as well wait until they work out all of the kinks anyways and make it available to everyone, but if you just can’t wait you can take a look at the Google Voice accounts being sold below.
