While considering the impact of the mental aspects of the scary maze game of golf, I’m reminded of a former brother-in-law of mine who had to be the ultimate poster child of frustration and emotional meltdown. He destroyed so many golf clubs that I eventually lost count. First of all, the golf course is not a stage for the drama and theatrics of out of control frustration and emotional anger. It’s not a place for the loud, rude, disruptive and obnoxious individuals whose childish and self-centered behavior eventually ruin the opportunity for everyone else, to enjoy the scary maze game of golf. What I’m getting at here is that golf is a sport that’s not going to be suitable for everyone, especially those who go through life angry and offended by pretty much everything and everyone.
As a golfer, both your handicap and your overall level of enjoyment will be as dependent upon your skill at mastering the mental aspects of the scary maze game, as it will be in the fundamentals and consistency of your best golf swing. A few experience based golf tips or a little golf instruction, will go a long way in improving your ability to relax, focus and move on to the next golf shot will serve you well throughout your golf training, as you struggle with the physical demands of fitness and form.
It’s important for you to remember that the first golf lesson should make it clear that playing golf should be fun, rather than simply a new and often expensive source of frustration. Rejoice in the abilities you have and focus on the benefits gained in mental alertness and physical fitness. Relax, concentrate on your golf fundamentals, try a few golf exercises, find joy in your progress and give thanks for each day that you’re able to consume the sun and fresh air of the great outdoors.
